Fred, an experienced engineer, was deployed as part of the repair and maintenance team for a cruise ship in Cape Verde. He was excited to start his new assignment and looked forward to exploring the opportunities and challenges the new engagement would present. 

Unfortunately, Fred’s workflow was suddenly cut short when he started experiencing an excruciating pain just a few days into the cruise. On being examined by the medical team available onboard, an electrocardiogram was performed, which confirmed a heart attack. He was immediately started on a treatment course, stabilized and subsequently transferred to a nearby facility onshore for continued treatment. The facility however had limited capacities and  resources to administer the advanced level of care that was required. 

It was at this point his insurance company reached out to us to assist with evacuating Fred to the closest destination of medical excellence in Europe. 

Our team was able to swiftly make all necessary arrangements to airlift the patient within a few hours of us being contracted and was set to depart base when we were unfortunately notified of a significant challenge with the receiving hospital secured. This warranted us to make some adjustments to our schedule and leveraging on our hospital network, we were able  to assist with securing a new facility for the patient within a short time frame and proceeded to airlift the patient.

The transfer was uneventful, and Fred was safely admitted to the medical facility, where the specialized care he urgently needed was available.
